Welcome Little Ones — 2026 Foal Season

lilly

There’s something that stops you in your tracks when you walk out to the paddock in the early morning and find a new foal — still wobbly, wide-eyed, and already curious about the world. This season has been one of our most beautiful yet, and we couldn’t be more excited to introduce you to the newest members of our herd.

More Than a Ride — A Different Way of Being with Horses

As the South Island’s only horse station — and largest ranch — we could have done things the conventional way. But, we didn’t. Here, the horse is your partner, not your servant, and that Natural Horsemanship philosophy shapes everything we do.

blossum hers 2026

Guests ride on a loose rein using bitless bridles, hoof boots instead of iron shoes, and saddles so comfortable people compare them to armchairs. Our training is rooted in natural horsemanship — building genuine trust rather than demanding compliance. The cowboy experience we offer isn’t a show; it’s an authentic way of being with horses on the land.

And it extends beyond the ride. Our commitment to sustainable, ethical practice runs through how we manage the land, how we care for the herd, and — especially at this time of year — how we breed.

This Season’s Foals — Say Hello

Ethical breeding is central to what we do. Every foal born at Lighthorse Adventures is the result of careful, considered decisions — bred for temperament, soundness, and the kind of generous spirit that makes a true partner. This season, we’re thrilled to introduce six remarkable youngsters.

Meet Lilly

Lilly, daughter of the beautiful Bonnie, arrived with a gentle confidence that already reminds us of her mother. She’s soft-eyed and quietly curious — the kind of foal who comes to investigate rather than startle away.

Meet Forest

Forest, born to Ella, has an earthy, wild energy about that suits her name perfectly. She is courageous and curious character, checking out all her new friends.

Meet Huckleberry

Huckleberry is our little character of the season — bold, playful, adventurous and already working out how to charm anyone who steps into his space. He’ll keep our team on their toes in the best possible way.

Meet Bramble

Bramble holds a very special place in our hearts this year as our first born of the season — the foal of our beloved Blossom. First light, first breath, first wobbly steps. Bramble carries all of that magic.

Meet Lavender

Lavender, daughter of Reata, has an elegance about her even at this young age. She moves with an easy grace and has a calm, thoughtful way of taking in the world — a beautiful prospect for the future.

Meet Raspberry

Raspberry, born to Ginger, is as spicy as they come! With those piercing bright blue eyes, she is already full of spark and sweetness in equal measure, and she has a habit of making everyone smile the moment they see her.

Come and Say hello!

These foals will grow up knowing kindness, patience, and the quiet language of horses and humans learning to understand each other. That’s the Lighthorse way — and it starts from their very first days.

With over 100 horses — plus all the other animals that make this place what it is — there’s a whole world to discover here.

Join us for a farm tour and meet all the animals, from our Highland Cows to Valais sheep and everyone in between. Connect with the herd up close, from the newest wobbly foals to our most seasoned characters. Or if you’re ready to find your partner in the saddle, explore our rides and treks and come and see what it feels like when horsemanship is done differently.
